Koyasan is one of Japan’s most sacred mountains, and it is the centre of Japanese Shingon Buddhism. The Shingon sect was founded at Koyasan in 805 C.E. by Kobo Daishi, one of Japan’s most prominent spiritual figures. Take a guided tour around Koyasan’s most famous landmarks, including Okunoin Temple, and stay overnight in a Buddhist temple.
Then, follow the same journey made by Japanese pilgrims for thousands of years as you make your way to the Kumano Sanzan shrines.
